I wonder if you know that feeling of being trapped within some invisible boundaries, unspoken standards and rules. Cages that we build for ourselves or that we allow other people to put us in. Like - Don’t bend the book when you read it, don’t leave any stains or marks, and - most definitely - don’t write in/on it.
But… why..?
If you bought a book but you don’t like the cover, why SHOULDN'T you make it more 'yours'?
To let reading be about the experience, not about keeping the book spotless?
So, a couple of months ago I bought an amazing journal by @archerandolive with super thick 160gsm dotted paper, amazing to sketch, highlight, even paint, with no bleeding. It opens flat, has a pocket at the back, two ribbons, pen holder and rubber band. And… a… LINEN COVER! Wonderful to touch but… it was too perfect. Too clean if you like. Spotless.
So one day when I felt a sudden burst of ‘FckThisSht,I’mNotGoingToBeAGoodGirlAnymoreIHaveMyNeedsAndEmotionsAndImAngryFFSLeaveMeAlone$#&@&$’ energy, I grabbed a brush and painted all over my journal cover. Over and over again. I then took a pencil and scribbled over my bookcase and storage boxes and drawers. What a feeling, what a relief!
I felt wild and free, for weeks I kept changing it, painting over the clouds, the mountains, the seascape, depending how I felt, what I wanted to see and carry around with me.
I think I now got to the point when it’s ready. For the time being at least 😉
The journals you can see here are prototypes. Each journal is painted by me as a commission and made to order.
Please note this product includes only the journal (the rest needs to wait a little bit, but I'm hoping to built a little gift set for you soon, so stay tuned!)
